This tour is about getting high & our aim is to camp in the alpine region of the Main Range where the descents are longer & the scenery is breathtaking. Ski the Western Faces & the far reaches of the Main Range from a ski in, ski out campsite on an SMBC multi-day tour & experience unsurpassed alpine vistas of Australia's highest peaks, glacial lakes & far away horizons.
SMBC multi-day tours onto the Main Range require a high level of fitness, advanced skiing skills & backcountry experience. Our Main Range Tour is not for those new to backcountry skiing. If you don't have any backcountry experience that is okay, we can book you in on one of our BC Intro Tours to firstly teach you the fundamentals of backcountry touring. Expect to be carrying a pack of around 17kg to & from our campsite on the first & last day. Once our campsite is established we will move about on day tours with packs reconfigured to day touring.

The Main Range is the highest part of The Great Dividing Range & home to Autralia's highest peaks & tops. We have been touring the Western Faces for over 30 years & have a comprehensive understanding of the terrain & its challenges, expect long runs & climbs with vertical up to 500m. Equipment
For this multi day tour you will be required to have the correct clothing & equipment, this is non negotiable! MONT Adventure Equipment have kindly sponsored this tour with their excellent gear at no extra cost. If you wish to use your own gear it must be in line with our listings & deemed acceptable by the guide. There will be a pre trip gear shakedown early on Day 1 at SMBC HQ. The guide has the final say on selection & suitability! We will discuss ski rental options further.

At the gear shakedown we will de clutter your pack & strip it back to only those essentials needed. Our multi-day tours are a lesson in simplistic & efficient systems, we will send you more information on Clothing & Equipment Guidelines & an Equipment Checklist

Ability/Experience/Fitness
All participants must be advanced skiers & experienced at backcountry skiing. This is a demanding multi-day tour with long climbs & efficient progress required from the beginning to the end. If you are a good skier but haven’t ski toured before you will be required to undertake an SMBC Backcountry Intro Course.If unsure about your suitability you can book as a private or book your own group.
